2025 Residency: Derrick Disney, Kobe Hughes, and Tom Morat

The queue is now live! On September 1st, Pilgrim Surf + Supply will welcome three of the most dynamic young surfer/shapers around: Derrick Disney, Kobe Hughes, and Tom Morat. They’ll be taking turns churning out shapes on Grand street for two weeks. The queue is officially live and will remain open on a first come first serve basis. Please find feel free to email residency@pilgrimsurfsupply.com with any questions.

Derrick Disney is among the finest recent exports of Encinitas surfboard building–continuing and expanding on the deep legacy of traditional fishes and eggs in a refreshingly inventive way. His surfing on self made equipment has prompted a considerable resurgence of the twinzer design concept. Equally influential as he is humble–Derrick’s lyrical wave riding, shaping, and sculpture making is nicely fit for cross-pollination in New York. Click here to book your deposit for Derrick.

From the same crop of quickly emerging North County cognoscente–Kobe Hughes has been living out the increasingly fleeting lifestyle of pro freesurfer. Traveling, scoring, shaping. If Burch reintroduced the sidecut and Derrick the twinzer, Kobe’s most notable contribution to modern design is the widepoint—namely, back. His tail-forward shapes like the “Patty Star” can recently be seen around the beaches of Angourie under the feet of Stephanie Gilmore, among others. Click here to book your deposit for Kobe.

Tom Morat’s transient, yet somehow hyperlocal, lifestyle perfectly embodies the surfing sensibilities. He’s been an active and respected member of the, often impenetrable, surf cultures of Noosa, San Diego, and now, the Basque Country. His shaping is just as eclectic as his surfing–making traditional longboards for Teatree just as well as innovative bullets for the beach brakes of southern France. All boards from Derrick, Kobe, and Tom will be glassed at Spacerock Glassing in Rhode Island. Pickup will be available here on Grand st. or in Rhode Island. Shipping available upon request.
