The Montauk Oceans Institute is a museum and symposium space located in an historic building adjacent to the Montauk Lighthouse.  The Institute's purpose is to educate visitors about various ocean related topics.  M.O.I. is a neutral platform for focused discussions and events of importance to the Long Island and the greater New York area marine environment.  The Montauk Lighthouse State Park hosts more than 90,000 visitors a year.  The Montauk Lighthouse, commissioned in 1796, was the first lighthouse built in New York State
